Parking & Travel Information for Disability Advocacy Day

Disability Advocacy Day at the South Carolina State House brings together self-advocates, families, partners, and policymakers from across our state. To help you plan ahead, please review the parking and driving information below for a smooth arrival.

Parking Information
Reserved Meter Parking (Red Bags on Meters)
Nearly 40 metered spaces have been reserved and will be clearly marked or bagged in red as “Reserved.”
Reserved Meter Locations:
1100 block of Sumter Street
1100 block of Assembly Street (East)
1100 block of Assembly Street Island
Reserved meters will be held from 6:00 PM the evening prior to the event until 2:00 PM on the day of the event.
Accessible Parking
Limited reserved accessible spaces are available at the following locations:
1 space – Sumter Street (corner of Sumter & Senate)
2 spaces – Senate Street eastbound (corner of Senate & Sumter)
3 spaces – Assembly Street (corner of Assembly & Senate) Note: Steps may limit direct access to the State House grounds from this location.
2 spaces – North Main Street southbound (corner of N. Main & Gervais)
2 spaces – North Main Street northbound (mid-block between Gervais & Lady Streets)
Bus & Large Van Parking
Reserved spaces for buses and large passenger vans are available on Sumter Street, east of the State House campus.
Important Advisory
Due to ongoing police operations around the State House, access to some meters along Assembly Street and Sumter Street sidewalks may be restricted.
To ensure adequate parking, additional reserved spaces have been set aside on the Assembly Street island (1100 block).

Driving Directions
From Greenville: Take I-385 S to I-26 E. Exit onto Gervais Street and continue toward Main Street.
From Charleston: Take I-26 W. Exit onto Huger Street, then turn onto Gervais Street toward Main Street.
From Myrtle Beach: Take US-501 to I-20 W. Merge onto SC-277 S and follow Assembly Street to Gervais Street.
From Aiken: Take I-20 E to Huger Street. Continue to Gervais Street and Main Street.
